Venues Event Management prides itself on its investment in its staff and the loyalty it receives in return, hence many of the staff have been with the company since it was established in 1989. When one of its long serving members of staff announced he had been diagnosed with a life threatening illness, it shocked the company to its very core.

Jason Cardy joined Swindon based Venues Event Management nine years ago and currently works as Client Manager looking after several key accounts, the largest of which is Royal Mail. Earlier this year, Jason was diagnosed with Leukaemia, devastating news for anyone to hear, especially a man in his early thirties with a wife and a three year old son.

Amazingly, after undergoing 5 months treatment and chemotherapy at Swindon’s Great Western Hospital, Jason has beaten the Leukaemia and has recently returned to work with a fresh outlook on life. To celebrate Jason’s return to work, Venues Event Management wanted to donate funds from its annual staff summer Barbeque to the charity of Jason’s choice. Rather than give the money to a large national charity, Jason wanted the people who had helped him to benefit directly from the money raised.

The Barbeque, sponsored by Village Hotels, raised just over five hundred pounds, all of which will go to the Dove Unit at Great Western Hospital, Swindon, where Jason was treated. The donation was recently presented to Vicky John, Senior Sister at the Dove Unit. Jason commented:

“You never think this sort of thing will happen to you, and I kept thinking: why me? The support I received from my fantastic wife, family, friends and work colleagues helped me get through the hardest thing I have ever faced. It’s great that the money raised is going to the team that cared for me so well. They saved my life, so it’s brilliant to be able to give something back.”
